That, after years spent being held by kidnappers, a family reunion would be a blessing. But for Ijanada, like many other Nigerian women and girls, that wasn\u2019t exactly what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-left-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>&#8220;I kept thinking of my family and the memories we shared before I was kidnapped.&#8221;\r\n<\/p> <cite>IJANADA<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ijanada was a teenager when she was kidnapped by Islamic militants Boko Haram. She was forced to \u2018marry\u2019 one of the Boko Haram fighters, and gave birth to his child when she was only 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI faced so much suffering, hunger, mistreatment and pain,\u201d she remembers. \u201cI kept thinking of my family and the memories we shared before I was kidnapped.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&quot;Your prayers kept me going&quot;: Ijanada hopes again after kidnapping\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/717427020?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Escape \u2013 and rejection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After four years, and pregnant with her second child, she managed to escape. But her family and community weren\u2019t welcoming to her. She returned to judgement and distrust. \u201cI was not welcome. Most people kept mocking and insulting me,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a common experience for women and girls who have been kidnapped in West Africa \u2013 particularly if they have children with Islamic militants. The woman and her children are stigmatised, and the community doesn\u2019t properly understand that the militants are the only ones who have done something wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ijanada loves her children, Luka and Warasini. \u201cEven though people tell me that they are children of the enemy, everything that God makes is beautiful,\u201d she says. It has been especially difficult for Ijanada\u2019s father to fully accept her children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Healing with trauma care<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Ijanada and her family are healing, thanks to Open Doors trauma care \u2013 which is available thanks to the gifts and prayers of Open Doors supporters like you.<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-right-wrapper\">\r\n        <div class=\"cta-box\">\r\n            <div class=\"stat\">Every \u00a345<\/div>\r\n\r\n            <div class=\"description\">Every \u00a345 could help equip a church member to provide trauma care to believers in their community.\r\n<\/div>\r\n            <a class=\"btn btn-secondary btn-lg view-more\"\r\n               href=\"https:\/\/connect.opendoorsuk.org\/ireland\/act\/donate\/\">Give a Gift<\/a>\r\n        <\/div>\r\n    <\/div>\r\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfter my escape, you helped me with trauma care. Your prayers have really kept me going &#8211; I am so happy, thank you so much.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ijanada remains determined to not be defined by her past. \u201cI have been able to finish my secondary school, and I want to go to a higher-level education,\u201d she says \u2013 and she continues to place her trust in God: \u201cGod has been with us all the while. He has protected us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her prayer is that Luka and Warasini \u2018grow up in God\u2019s image\u2019 \u2013 and she also asks that supporters join her in praying for her education and her future: \u201cPlease pray that God will open doors for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cYou never forgot me\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ijanada is so grateful to Open Doors partners, and to the supporters who are making such a difference to her life: \u201cYou never forgot me. Today you travelled to my house again, just to see me and my children. Just to know how I am faring.
