Coming together with other Christians in Iran was always a risk \u2013 but this time, their fears came true.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe still can\u2019t forget the day when the police raided our house church, took some of us away, and forced the rest to sign a paper confessing we would never meet or engage in Christian activities again,\u201d she says. \u201cThey were tearing us apart, one by one.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iranian government strictly monitors and cracks down on Christian activities, making any attempt to share the good news a dangerous task. You never know if the person you approach will betray you and hand you over to the authorities. Believers also know that they could be turned in by suspicious neighbours and friends. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-right-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>\u201cWe live under constant surveillance and face different kinds of pressure. It&#8217;s a daily battle\u201d\u00a0<\/p> <cite>Fatemeh<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn Iran, the government sees our faith as a threat,\u201d Fatemeh says. \u201cWe live under constant surveillance and face different kinds of pressure. It&#8217;s a daily battle to keep our faith in such hostile conditions. But God is good!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Struggling to grow spiritually&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatemeh\u2019s journey of faith has been rocky. She became a Christian in her 20s, but struggled to grow spiritually. \u201cWe had become Christians, but we still didn\u2019t know how to live like one,\u201d she recalls. \u201cGod was reviving people in Iran and bringing them closer to Himself, but at the same time, Satan was trying to attack the church, hurting new believers with false teachings.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The believers in the first house church she attended found it difficult to teach the Bible, making the group afraid to even read it together. \u201cMaybe this was a result of not having official churches to attend. And of course, Satan was trying to make us renounce our faith and lose sight of our Saviour,\u201d she says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatemeh floated between groups trying to learn more about Christ for 10 years without much success. It wasn\u2019t until she met Fayiz*, an Open Doors partner, that she was revived in her faith. He helped her attend a Christian conference outside of Iran. \u201cIt felt like a new beginning!\u201d Fatemeh says. \u201cI truly started to build a relationship with Jesus and began to understand who He really is!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-right-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>\u201cWe couldn&#8217;t keep Christian materials or even a Bible in our house\u201d<\/p> <cite>Fatemeh<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But her joy was short-lived: the police raided her new house church. When the pastor and church leaders were released from prison, they had to flee the country. \u201cIt took time for the situation to calm down and for the stress to diminish to reconnect with our leaders online,\u201d Fatemeh remembers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the next three years, the fear of arrest and imprisonment was a constant terror; Fatemeh even avoided extended family in case she was accused of running a house church. \u201cWe couldn&#8217;t keep Christian materials or even a Bible in our house,\u201d she says. \u201cWe had to throw them away, and if anyone was courageous enough to risk keeping a small Bible, they had to hide it very well and read it in secret. It has only been in the last couple of years that we began meeting regularly again and gathering some resources, secretly.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Protests lead to more arrests&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the death of Mahsa Amini in 2021, which sparked protests across Iran against the morality police, Fatemeh\u2019s husband was arrested because his sister was suspected of joining the protests. \u201cI was afraid they might discover his Christian faith and use it against him,\u201d Fatemeh says. \u201cIn such conditions, Christian converts are the best candidates to be accused of acting against the Islamic country\u2019s security.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatemeh\u2019s husband was imprisoned for several weeks, accused of false charges. \u201cWhen he came out, he was changed. He wasn\u2019t sure whether he should continue helping others or stay hidden,\u201d she says.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-right-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>\u201cAlthough online meetings have their own challenges&#8230; they are vital for us\u201d\u00a0<\/p> <cite>Fatemeh<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The conditions in prison were torturous. \u201cHe said that sometimes he couldn\u2019t stop himself from thinking of suicide, but Jesus was the only truth and righteous One in the midst of all lies and betrayals that helped him endure.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their daughter, Shirin*, was also shaken by the events. \u201cI hear similar stories from many parents in different house churches,\u201d Fatemeh says. \u201cChristian children who share these challenges feel lonely and need a safe place to express themselves and receive help from psychologists.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thankfully, Shirin is now able to meet with other Christian children online, but Fatemeh knows they need more leaders and resources to meet the needs. \u201cThe current revival in Iran is significant because many people have lost trust in Islam, but with the increased pressure from the government and conservative groups, Christians sometimes struggle to grow,\u201d Fatemeh shares. \u201cAlthough online meetings have their own challenges from the bad internet connection and risk of surveillance, they are vital for us. We pray that God would make a new way for face-to-face meetings, especially for Shirin and other kids.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You give Fatemeh the courage to keep going&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-right-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>\u201cIn every meeting&#8230; I feel the presence of God and the support of my brothers and sisters in Christ\u201d<\/p> <cite>Fatemeh<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But despite all that she\u2019s been through, Fatemeh has held on to Christ \u2013 and her desire to strengthen the church in Iran. She leads a small house church, and visits hospitals where she not only shares the gospel with others but offers to help cover people\u2019s medical costs with her church\u2019s help. \u201cI don\u2019t want to only speak about the love of Jesus,\u201d she explains. \u201cI want to love them the way Jesus loves me!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fatemeh is also receiving support from local Open Doors partners \u2013 made possible through your ongoing prayers and gifts. She can attend conferences outside the country and join in with online discipleship groups to grow in her faith. \u201cIn every meeting or session, I feel the presence of God and the support of my brothers and sisters in Christ,\u201d she says. \u201cIt renews my spirit and gives me the courage to face each day.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She then goes back to her house church where she encourages God\u2019s people. \u201cI share with them our experiences, how Jesus worked in our life in the midst of persecution and through the challenges, and He showed us how He works,\u201d she notes. \u201cWe know that persecution might increase, but we are not alone! God and His people are with us.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*<em>Names changed for security
