Women are particularly vulnerable to divorce, disinheritance and trafficking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Christian men also experience discrimination in the workplace, including being refused work because of their faith.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why are Christians persecuted in Comoros?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Comoros\u2019s state religion is Islam, and it\u2019s illegal to share any other faith than Sunni Islam. The authorities exert a particularly strict control over Comorian citizens and closely monitors migrants\u2019 Christian activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Christians can only legally worship in three designated churches, and it is very hard to train leaders or gather for services outside of these churches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Persecution also comes from family members: if a Comorian converts to Christianity, it is considered very shameful for the whole family.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who is particularly vulnerable in Comoros?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Converts from Islam face the lightest level of persecution, as leaving the Muslim faith is a crime.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n    <div class=\"pull-left-wrapper \">\n        <blockquote><p>&#8220;With the loan, I was able to buy a sewing machine and fabrics. I thank the Lord for all He is doing in my life.&#8221;<\/p> <cite>Nadia* was helped by a business loan from Open Doors partners<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n    <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What has changed in Comoros in the past year?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The nation&#8217;s presidential election in early 2024 was marred by violent protests; the victor is the same leader who has been in power since 2016, suggesting that little will change for Christians in Comoros.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While violence remains relatively low in Comoros, there are increasing reports of violent incidents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In late 2023, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom put Comoros on its \u2018special watch list\u2019, demonstrating that the country\u2019s restrictions on religious minorities \u2013 including Christians \u2013 are internationally significant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-i-help-christians-in-the-region\"><strong>How can I help Christians the region?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please keep praying for your brothers and sisters in Comoros.
